Part Two: Chapter Two.

My first question that I had while reading this chapter was, how can Winston attribute their entire relationship to being solely a political act? Winston and Julia have their first encounter and it seems as if there is a real relationship between the two of them. But, in the end he relates it all to Big Brother and rebelling against him. I think the relationship is going to continue between the two of them. My question now is, are they going to take their rebellion to another level and actually try and overthrow Big Brother in some way? I think that together they could if they had more people helping them. I just think there is a lot going on right now, and Julia and Winston are both still trying to figure out what they want to do or what their plans are.

  1. How could it NOT be political? How could they possibly have feelings for one another? People engage in relationships, both sexual and non-sexual, for all kinds of reasons. I think Orwell wanted to highlight that fact of human nature: we do things for purely selfish reasons far more often than we will admit.
